I've been washing a lot of dishes by hand lately, due to a broken dishwasher. I kind of like it. It gives me time to think while I wash.
Often my mind wanders to a simpler time when I was a child washing dishes for my grandmother. She always told me to get the water temperature as hot as I could stand it. Of course, she could always stand it hotter than I could because of her experience with it, and I was just a newbie back then. There is one important lesson I've learned while the dishwasher has been out -- washing dishes is like riding a bike.... you never forget how.
I wash dishes by hand too, but because we have no dishwasher. My mom would tell me the same thing, and I've learned I can get it pretty hot now, lol. Unfortunately the dry air and winter comoing on have done a sad number on my hands :(
ReplyDeleteI know! Those are not a good combination for keeping hands nice and soft.
