Tiny Little Garden

I have been growing radishes with good success this year in small containers. It's a process to learn what will grow in my tiny little garden that gets mostly full sun all day. Radishes and cabbage are thriving. Just planted some peas, so we'll see how that goes. If you've never planted a garden before you should try it, it's amazing how little space is needed!

Rescuing Old Books

Every Saturday, I drag myself out of bed to find book treasures, and today was no exception. Around 9:00, I arrived at this particular sale that had touted, "rare books" in their ad. The people who hosted the sale were just starting to put things out when I drove by. The lady kept bringing out boxes of books, I'd look through and see nothing, then she'd bring out another box and still nothing.
Resolved that I was not going to find anything worthwhile there, I patiently waited as she went back inside each time for more books. Predictably, I found nothing that stood out until, this - a gorgeous old leather copy of, Voltaire. Perfect! I love to rescue old books from their fate of who knows what.

Want to see what I find next week?
Will post some of the best things I find, right here!

Food Storage Formula

I am not sure where I got this, but this is a short-term food storage formula / food rotation idea. I think these are supposed to be freezer meals.

You need:

7 meal ideas (favorite meals your family likes to eat)---->

x 12

equals 84 meals, or 3 months of meals

Here is the outline for buying and preparing the meals you rotate. You repeat for each of the 7 meals.

Meal #1 -

Ingredients needed-

Ingredients needed for 12 meals -

The key is to make things your family already likes and eats, then you freeze them / rotate for future use. When the meals are running low, you repeat the process. You'd be amazed at how much you save on food when you do this!

Ginger Root

Just went to pick up my local co-op basket of fruits and vegetables for the week. This week it included a ton of ginger root. My first inclination was to just give it away to someone who knew what to do with it.

I have no idea what I'll do with it yet, but I've decided to keep it and attempt a recipe or two. A perfect chance to learn how to cook with a food I am unfamiliar with. How do you use ginger root?

Hear the Music!

With tightening budgets, music purchases take a back seat sometimes as the budget doesn't allow for many splurges. There is a solution, however.

Noisetrade
offers you the chance of some free new, (and old), music, and the artists themselves are the ones offering it to you. Tipping is always appreciated and a nice thing to do. In fact, it's the right thing to do, if you can, however much you can.

Let's face it, everyone needs new music every now and then. it's a win-win for everyone because the artist (hopefully) gets tipped and the listener gets some great music. Check out Noisetrade!

The Sprouting Book

This book from 1986, a Goodwill find, tells information on, "how to start and maintain an indoor sprout garden." The author, (Ann Wigmore) presents, "A wide variety of sprouts and sprouting methods," and also shares some recipes.

Here are some sprouting/growing ideas that might be worth a try.
