Apple Gatherers

With food costs rising, we all want the best grocery/meal deals we can get. Here are three things I am testing out to see how much can be saved on the weekly grocery bill.

1) Shop your local grocery store sale ads and use only the items they are offering on sale to create your meal plan for the week. Just doing that you will automatically save a lot of money. It's a simple, easy to use plan, and not as time consuming as those extreme couponers you see on tv. But do add coupons when you can to increase your savings.

2) Get your fruits and vegetables from a local co-op. Co-ops eliminate the middle man by the member picking up that weeks produce at a specific time and place. For a fee of around 15 dollars per week, you receive local and possibly organic produce that you carry back to your car in bags you provide yourself. It's local and fresh.

3) Plan a weeks menu of entrees that can be made and then frozen. Swap one or two meals with a friend or family member who has also planned out a menu. This is a great way to stock up and get a variety of foods for your family, plus it saves you time, money, and effort, and not all of your eggs are in one basket.
